RESEARCH:
When looking for film trailers I mostly use online sources to do so, or cinema. My favourite way to access film trailers is at the cinema as the film trailers are fitted to me and my needs based on the film I am going to see. However I find that going online is a very quick and efficient way to access movie trailers, I tend to use social media platforms, youtube and other sites for example the ones below ...
iTunes Movie Trailers
iTunes Movie Trailers are one of my favourite ways to watch trailers as they offer lots of variety and option to fit the needs of a large target audience, they are easily accessible as I use mostly apple products however they are also online for anyone to use. I find that apple have a very wide range of films and often have high end production films with some of my favourite talents. Apple are very good as they don't have any online ad's which I like as I find they get in the way and the movie trailers they offer are of high standard and quality.
Youtube
The other most common way for me to access movie trailers is through youtube, I use youtube daily as a source of entertainment watching content creators videos. I like youtube as although it has many ads between vides sometimes the ad's they show are movie trailers, this offers me the opportunity to watch a new film trailer I may have not come across if it wasn't for youtube. Youtube is a quick and easy way to watch film trailers as you can easily search in the search engine and it will come up.
IMDb
I have used IMDb for a long time now however, usually I would use it to access extra information on a film after I have watched it such as the actors/actresses within the film, the awards the film may have received, the directorsetc. Although I have recently discovered that IMDb offers a way for viewers to watch film trailers, this is a really efficient way to access movie trailers as it is very quick and gives lots of database on each film.
IMDb is extremely useful as it allows you to not only watch film trailers but also TV trailers, this allows a wide range of audiences to use it as some people may prefer to watch TV series' instead of film all the time. I have recently myself watched the film trailer for Black Widow on IMDb, I found that I really enjoyed this way of watching trailers as it also offers you trending trailers or trailers related, fitting to my needs of film genre.
The FDA Yearbook of 2020 has new updated information on audiences and how they use online sources such as websites like Youtube and social media platforms, Twitter, Instagram etc. The FDA show us facts about IMDB, it shows that our opinion on it being more like a database but can also be used as a website that audiences use to watch trailers as well.
DISTRIBUTION
In AS I conducted research on my film of choice, this being, A Star is Born. I created this collage to show the different methods of distribution produced by the the distributors Warner Brothers. These included a film website, film posters, social media and merchandising.
This is further evidence that I understand the importance of a film poster and website and the role they play in creating a cohesive marketing campaign for a film. This helped me gain inspiration for my own distribution techniques, making me more aware of the film industry.
INDEPENDENT FILMS - how low-budget / independent films use
their websites to address and attract audiences.
THE REPORT: This is an Amazon Studios website so it has a generic quality in its layout (same as Sorry We Missed You). You note its key features such as the synopsis, trailers, release details and social media links. The latter are increasingly important and probably more powerful in reaching audiences than the film website.
ReplyDeleteONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD: Do not overlook the social media links to Twitter, FB and Instagram, which enrich the audience interactivity. The film webpage is distinctive in its use of colour which really evokes the 'Golden Age' of Hollywood. It prioritises its two A List stars Brad Pitt and DiCaprio as well as vaunting its accolades such as awards for Best Production Design and Supporting Actor.
ReplyDeleteAVENGERS: ENDGAME As this is a Disney film and part of the Marvel Universe, there is more than one route to official online info, so I wasn't sure which website you were analysing. However, you do draw attention to its busy interactivity and how much is made of its huge cast.
ReplyDeleteWebsite You provide is an impressively thorough, beautifully presented and rigorously researched post under your FILM WEBSITE page that offers very substantial evidence of the highest quality work. Your website hosts all our your promo pack in a convincing and cohesively designed whole that engages your target audience from the home page forwards. The landing page presents your Production Company, Moonlight Productions, shivering in disconcerting grey at top and bottom with its crescent moon logo. The central splash is the key image of the protagonist that also appears on your poster and features prominently in the trailers, creating brand cohesion. The sombre monochrome fits the horror / thriller genre well, punctuated by the blood red title and relieved only by the contours of the engaging protagonist’s grave face, set against the moonlit Institute and echoed in a second close-up of her face. The whole page is beautifully balanced, showing a keen sense of layout design, and leading the eye across the essentials of the page. The top bar houses the convergent links to other pages neatly and they all work smoothly, with all social media on one side.
ReplyDeleteScrolling down, audiences are invited in by the intriguing video of a corridor that plunges mysteriously to the Basement, with the film synopsis to one side, and pull quotes beckoning and clearly signalling the horror genre, with a security camera time code twitching unnervingly. Other pages impress through their creativity: the Cast page is set against a backdrop of video showing the protagonist arriving at The Institute, and like the other pages, it is finely balanced. Very inventive merchandise are (digitally) created for the Shop page and all are carefully considered for the target market and contribute to the film’s branding. The website hosts all components of an ambitious independent film, such as festival screenings, reviews, trailers, posters, and the full range of social media links. The website is a real work of art.
